Celebrating Failure

1. There is one thing this semester I have failed constantly, waking up early. Regardless of my alarms, the activity of the day, or help from friends, I just cannot wake up. I have tried time and time again, to no avail I do not wake up.
2. I learned two things from this expericnce; one, not everything in life can or will be accomplished, and two, some of the simplest tasks will be the most challenging.
3. Failure is tough to overcome, especially when first encountered. Failure makes one feel inadequate and successive failure makes people quit. The consistent failure causes human beings to believe the task is impossible and makes them mentally block themselves from the goal. I realized l, much like Edison's quote, failure is not the impossibility of a task, but various routes of a task that is not desired. Once I grasped the concept that failure is my friend and a crucial part of practice, I was able to work on waking up and move closer to my target time everyday. Accepting one's inadequacies is important in making a stride towards success, as seeing how you are wrong helps correct to be right. The simple task of waking up early has helped me not fear any challenges ahead, as failure in life is guaranteed and using failure to ones advantage is essential in moving toward in life.

  1. Hi Donovan!

I definitely struggle with waking up on time as well. I like to sleep in and snooze my alarms, which is a bad habit. I like that you mentioned that even some of the seemingly simplest tasks are among the most difficult to certain people. I know scheduling things later in the day helps me because then I will never be late to class or an appointment. Like you mentioned, failure is just a form of practice, so I hope this class has helped with teaching you about not giving up.

Here’s a link to my blog if you’re interested in checking out what I came up with for this post: http://michellekelleyuf.blogspot.it/2016/04/week-13-celebrating-failure.html

  2. Hey Donovan, I struggle with waking up when its not necessary. I scheduled my earliest class to be 3pm this semester. I don't quite agree with your ideas about failure being a friend, I try to avoid accepting my inadequacies, because by their nature, they make me inadequate. I think if I was more accepting of this, I'd probably be a happier person, and I'm interested to see how this works out for you. You should check out my failure, its similar in that I haven't performed at my best in a calculus class. http://imalsonotadoctor.blogspot.com/2016/04/celebrating-failure.html
